I became involved because I figured it would be a great way to spend a Friday or Saturday night that did not involve watching reruns of Roseanne or doing my laundry. It also allows for some prime people-watching opportunities from the comfort of a lovely zipcar. RR provides such a valuable service to so many people and it’s really awesome to see how greatly they appreciate it. In the future, I’d like to see RR have a larger service area and possibly branch out to other nights of the week.

Volunteering as a navigator for RightRides has been a fantastic experience and a lot of fun in the short time that I’ve been involved. It took me a few months to finally myself to an orientation but I’m so happy that I did! I have had a great time meeting new people each shift allowing me to find new music, movies, and places I should check out and be able to share the same with others. It’s also great to know that you’re also helping others get a safe ride home because if you’re like any other New Yorker you’ll know how difficult and sometimes unsafe it can be trying to get home late at night.
I wish I had found out about this sooner, honestly. Not only do I help people get home and meet awesome new people, but I get to ride around in a car listening to some great jams with great conversation flowing. I’m a transplant from Tallahassee, FL and it makes me feel at home when I’m in a car versus the subway. It’s a luxury you don’t realize until it’s taken away.

There’s a beauty about the city at night as well that’s very satisfying to see when doing something for a good cause like RightRides. It’s pretty amazing and I can only hope to spread the word and get more people involved in volunteering and helping out to really know what it is I’m talking about.

Volunteering with RightRides has proved a great way of getting to know the city and meeting some really awesome people. The fact that in one night you can travel from Red Hook to the Bronx and everywhere in between makes it a different experience each night.

I became fully committed to the awesomeness of RightRides after seeing firsthand the impact that two volunteers + one Zipcar can make to a few individuals. Of course the best part about volunteering with RightRides is seeing someone get home safely, beginning to end. Also, it’s a great excuse to see how much coffee you can consume over a few short hours (my record is around four cups). Here’s to hoping for that RightRides expands beyond New York City!

The past year volunteering for RightRides has been such an amazing experience. The people we have picked up and those involved at the organization have been some of the most interesting and genuine individuals I have met since moving to the city. Helping others in such a direct way and hearing how thankful they are for our service makes RightRides such a unique volunteering experience. I hope RightRides continues to expand their services in NYC and branches out to other cities soon!

I’ve been volunteering with RightRides for one year, and I really value being part of this organization. I love the inspired activism, the grassroots model, and particularly the ability to see and talk to the real people who benefit from such work. It’s not drastic immediate change, but it’s small scale, steady work, that has the ability to change consciousness and actions. I also just have a great time each night I go out with a new driver (and, not being a driver myself, I’m in awe of everyone’s sweet driving skills). With completely equal weight, I have to thank RightRides for deepening my understanding of Brooklyn neighborhoods.I’m always interested in meeting new people who are interested in changing the world, and RightRides certainly draws all different kinds of people who share common ideals. That an organization like RightRides exists helps me to remember that it’s not crazy to envision a world where violence against women and girls doesn’t exist, so thank you all!

I volunteer for a lot of causes and organizations, but I have to say that RightRides holds a special place in my heart and I really support the work that we do.

I started volunteering about a year ago (first as a navigator, and eventually as a dispatcher!), because I wanted a productive and helpful thing to do in the middle of the night besides eating ice cream & watching movies!

I’ve met a lot of rad people, and I really love that Kimmie is so receptive to my constant changes in names and gender pronouns! The knowledge that you help at least one person get home safe and without fear each night creates a feeling that just cannot be matched. I will talk up RightRides to anyone at any time, and I am so psyched to be nominated for Volunteer of the Month!
